Obituary

Walter L. Bennett Watkins Glen: Walter L. Bennett, age 73, of Watkins Glen, NY died unexpectedly on Monday May 2, 2022 at Robert-Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of His Life from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm. Military Honors being rendered at 12:30pm, Friday May 6, 2022; Millport Hunting & Fishing Club, 1750 Gano Rd , Montour Falls, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Watkins Glen Fire Dept. or Ambulance Dept.201 North Perry St, Watkins Glen, NY 14891. Walter was born Jan. 8, 1949 in Montour Falls, NY, the son of the late Warren H. and Marie J. (Clark) Bennett. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1974; during which he returned to marry the former Luanne Webster on March 1, 1969 in Dundee, NY. Honorably Discharged, and starting his family; Walter was employed as a Correction Officer by the N.Y.S. Dept. of Corrections, in Monterey, NY; retiring in 2010. Walt was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting sports, especially Trap and Skeet. When not doing any of those sports he could usually be found on his motorcycle. His passions and involvements were directly reflected in his many memberships, including the Hammondsport American Legion, the Montour Falls Moose Lodge, Millport Hunting and Fishing Club, 3 B Sportsman's Club, the American Motorcycle Assoc., H.O.G. – Harley Owners Group, and Arkport H.O.G. Club. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 53 years Luanne Bennett; their daughter Antionette "Toni" (Ralph) Warren of Dundee, NY, and two sons Kenneth (Ruby) Bennett of Penn Yan, NY, Jeffrey W. (Holly) Bennett of Elmira, NY; 5 grandchildren Amber (Jeremy Angle) Warren of Union Star, MO, Dustin (Samantha) Warren of Dundee, Chelsey (Stephen) Chappell, and Tori Bennett both of Penn Yan, Ethan Bennett of Elmira, NY; 3 great grandchildren Avery and Madison Warren, and Brylee Chappell; 2 brothers Frank Bennett of Beaver Dams, NY, Arthur (Kelly) Bennett of Watkins Glen; 2 sisters Karen (Morris) Truex of Knoxville, TN, Vicky (Charlie) Decker of Watkins Glen; along with numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
