Born in Rochester, NY on October 20, 1968, Stacy was raised with a focus on hard work and determination. Stacy grew up in Himrod, NY, on Seneca Lake where she spent her time truly appreciating the serene lake water. She graduated from Dundee Central School in 1986 and SUNY Fredonia in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree from Wright State University. After marrying Chris Mortensen, her high school sweetheart, in 1991, they moved to Greenville, Ohio, where Stacy began her career as a teacher. Stacy taught kindergarten at Versailles Exempted Village School District for 20 years. She touched the lives of over 1,000 kindergarten children during her career. She was passionate about teaching and started each day by singing "You Are My Sunshine" to her students. Stacy taught through the ups and downs of her life. Her Versailles school family described her as a true inspiration, leaving the legacy to "be positive, smile, work hard, love deeply, and have faith."
Stacy adored her daughters Casey and Jessica. She loved spending time with the girls watching movies, going to the zoo, or at home laughing together. During the summer, Stacy could be found relaxing with her girls at her parents' home on Seneca Lake. Stacy was always on the go with her girls, making sure they could experience all that life had to offer.
