Obituary

Ronald J. Campbell Sr. Dundee: Ronald Jerome Campbell Sr., age 83, of Wayne, NY died Tuesday October 22, 2024 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, in Elmira, NY. There will be no prior calling hours. He will be interred with Military Honors in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY at 11:00 am Friday Nov. 15, 2024 with Chaplain Judy Peppard officiating. A Celebration of His Life will be held starting at 11:00 am until 4:00 pm, Saturday Nov. 16, at the Wayne Fire Department, 9997 County Road 87, Wayne, NY 14893. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne Fire Department, or the Wayne Village Baptist Church P.O. Box 49, Wayne, NY 14893. Ronald was born August 25, 1941 in Penn Yan, NY, the son of the late Jerome S. and Beatrice Irene (Jayne) Campbell. Ron was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy class of 1959. In 1958, Ron enlisted into the United States Army and served 22 years retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 in 1981. While in the Army, he attended Fort Steilacoom Community College, in Tacoma Washington, receiving an Associate Degree in automotive mechanics and engineering. On September 8, 1969, Ron married the former Mary K. Bozich at the Penn Yan Methodist Church. Ron was a resident in the Town of Wayne where he was the former Fire Commissioner and 2nd Assistant Fire Chief. Ron drove school bus for the Penn Yan School District; was a life member of the NRA and N.A.H.C.; and dedicated his time as a Cub Scout Master. He also enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, and hunting. He will best be remembered for his love of his family and country. Ron is survived by his wife Mary, two daughters: Sandra Orr, of Hammondsport, NY, DaVida Holmes, of Clifton Springs, NY, two sons Ronald (Cindy) Campbell, Jr., of Erin, NY and Randy (Rebecca) Campbell, of Lillington, NC., son in law Tom Thompson, of Penn Yan, NY; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Ronda Thompson, grandson Brandon Holmes, and sister Shirley A. Teed. Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, NY.
