Roland E. Smith Sr. Dundee: Roland E. Smith Sr., age 77, of Dundee, NY died Saturday July 4, 2015 at Geneva General Hospital, in Geneva, N.Y. surrounded by his loving family. Friends are invited to calling hours from 10:00 to 12:00 noon Thursday (July 9) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where his funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Whendy Wolverton officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Fire Company Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837. Roland was born Nov. 25, 1937 in Rock Stream, NY, the son of the late Charles E. "Al" and Dorothy E. Cornish Smith. He graduated from Dundee Central School in 1957. He married the former Barbara J. Hess on February 24, 1957 at the Wayne Baptist Church. His working career included 18 years at Ingersoll-Rand in Painted Post, before taking a position at Cargill Salt, in Watkins Glen, NY; where he retired in 2000 after 28 years of service. Roland also served his country for 29 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as SFC in 1984. He was a former member of Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660. A loving and generous father, who was always willing to help his family, he enjoyed hunting, participated in computer technology blogs, and more recently boating. He was a dedicated Miami Dolphins Fan and loved NASCAR racing. He will be dearly missed by a daughter Dorothy Ann (Terry L. Wax) McCann of Fort Meade, FL; 4 sons Roland E. (Glenda) Smith Jr. of Dundee, Duane C. (Bernardine Rapacki) Smith of Elmira, Lyman W. (Emmie) Smith of Canastota, NY, Ross E. (Sandra) Smith also of Dundee; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Roland was pre-deceased by his wife Barbara in 2014, his two sons Randy L. in 1961, Leonard E. "Lenny" in 2009, and 2 brothers Loren C. Smith in 2001, and Richard C. Smith in 2012.
