Obituary

Robert C. Thurling Keuka Park: Robert Charles "Bob" Thurling, age 77, of Keuka Park, NY previously of Cohocton, NY, passed away suddenly on Monday November 24, 2025 at home. Calling hours will be from 2:00 – 4:00 pm Sunday (Nov. 30) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee. A Christian funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday (Dec. 1) at St Michael's Catholic Church, 312 Liberty Street, Penn Yan with Father Leo Reinhardt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery, Penn Yan, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310 Miami, FL 33126. Robert was born Sept. 8, 1948 in Somerville, NJ, the son of the late John Agnew and Edith Mae Ward Thurling. He graduated from Watchung Hills High School in 1966. He joined the US Army in 1967 and became a Medic affectionately called Doc Thurling by his fellow soldiers, being honorably discharged in 1970. In 1971 he started his studies at Craig State School of Nursing, where he met and fell in love with an upper classman the former Deborah Katherine Wager; they waited for her to graduate, and were married on June 30, 1973 in Cohocton, NY. He graduated a year later in 1974, thanks to the help of his wife, who has been by his side ever since. "Bob" had a variety of career options, but none that he love more than caring for people as a RN, he worked for many years at Groveland Correctional Facility in Sonyea, NY; retiring in 2005. His compassion for his fellow veterans was evident as he served as a Past Union President at the Bath VA, a member of the VFW, and the Vietnam Veterans Motor Cycle Club. He loved to bowl, and belonged to several leagues throughout the years. He loved making people smile, either as being a clown, or just acting like one, he was a member of the Society of American Magicians, tried his best at mastering hillbilly musical instruments, was a constant joker, loved to travel, work with leather, and even won at the slots once in a while. He is loved and will be forever missed by his wife of 52 years, Deb Thurling at home, 3 daughters Amy M. (Quyen) Vuong of Tustin, CA, Tamara K. (David) Beech of Henrietta, NY, Nicole C. (Dave) Lavallee of Milford, MA; 7 grandchildren Audrey, Westley, Myles, & Aymelia Voung, Winifred Beech, Lily, & Vera Lavallee; 2 brothers John Henry (Shanta) Thurling of Groveland, FL, Roger (Sandra) Thurling of Leesburg, FL; a sister Louise (Joseph) Hawryluk of Warren, NJ; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws; his brother from another mother John (Linda) Wray of Mt.
