N. Shirley Smith DUNDEE: N. Shirley Smith, age 86, formerly of Dundee and Rushville, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Living Center at Geneva-North, in Geneva, NY. Friends are invited to calling hours from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon on Monday (Feb. 22) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where her funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 12:00 noon with Rev. Marilyn Wood officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee United Methodist Church 35 Water St. Dundee, NY 14837. Shirley was born September 2, 1929 in Canandaigua, NY, the daughter of the late Charles Earl and Gladys Viola Lane Whitman. She graduated from Middlesex Valley Central in 1947; and went on to graduate from Geneseo State Teachers College with a bachelor's degree in teaching in 1951. On April 24, 1954 in the Rushville Methodist Church she married the late Douglas Harry Smith, who passed away on January 19, 1992. Mrs. Smith was a retired elementary teacher having taught for many years at Dundee Central School, Dundee, NY. She was a devoted member of the Dundee United Methodist Church, and an avid reader. She is loved and will be missed by 3 daughters, Debra S. Hathaway of Dundee, Nancy L. Christensen of Gorham, Peggy Lee (Brian) Henderson of Penn Yan; 5 grandchildren David P. Switzer, Heidi E. Blackstock, Kimberly A. Henderson Eileen M. (Adam) Foster, Ruth E. (Tony) Sanford; 2 great granddaughters Ashlee B. and Rebecca L. Blackstock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
