Mildred A. (Thompson) Bailey
Bradford, NY: Mildred A. Bailey, 85, of Bradford, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, May 10, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born August 4, 1939, one of fifteen children born to the late Claude E. and Mildred A. (Mitchell) Thompson. She attended various schools in the area, graduating from Dundee Central School in 1959. She married her high-school sweetheart, Richard C. Bailey, and celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his death.
Mildred enjoyed many years at home raising her family, and assisting her husband in the operation of their dairy farm, Lamoka Valley Farms in Tyrone, NY. She loved her role as a farmer's wife, supporting her children's activities showcasing the animals and served as the adult leader of the local 4H chapter, 226 Stompers. She fostered her love of feeding people in her career working in the cafeterias of Bradford Central and Watkins Glen Middle Schools. She spent many years as a member of the Tyrone Chapter #612 Order of the Eastern Star, having proudly served as Matron for the group.
Mildred was an avid seamstress, cook, baker, and card-maker. Her world-class lasagna and homemade rolls were savored by her family, and her famous sugar cookies were often requested by friends and family alike. Anyone that met Mildred would very quickly learn that her greatest source of pride and enjoyment was her role as a mother and grandmother. She called her children daily to make sure their day went well, embraced social media so she could keep up with all of their activities, and surprised everyone when she showed up on Snap Chat so she didn't miss out on the latest events. She could go on for hours about whatever the latest activity or accomplishment or newfound passion that her children or grandchildren had found. She was a fixture in the stands at all of the sporting events, whether home or away, unabashedly cheering the loudest, and berating any official or referee who dared to make a call against her beloved darlings.
She will be forever loved by her three children, Steven (Deborah) Bailey of Montour Falls, Tina (Charles) Cummings of Rochester, NY, and Curt (Kathleen) Bailey of Bradford, NY, with whom she made her home. The devoted "Grandma" to her five grandsons, Nathaniel Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, Maxwell Bailey, John Glick, Jr., Christopher (Tracey) Glick, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren will be truly missed. Mildred is also survived by her two remaining siblings, her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Services honoring Mildred will be held at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Bradford, NY on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:00 am. In accordance with Mildred's wishes, inurnment will be private in Tyrone Union Cemetery.
