Michael was born August 9, 1957 in Penn Yan, NY, to the late Edgar James and Rosella Mae (Rider) Westfall. Raised in Dundee the son of a dairy farmer, ‘Mikey’ as everyone knew him, learned the meaning and value of hard work from before the sun came up, until the last cow laid down. His tough childhood upbringing shaped him into a hard-working man with a “never quit attitude”. He would say “It’s a Westfall Thing”. He was a friend to anyone he met, always helping or trying to help, even if it meant dropping what he was doing, or putting himself in harm’s way. Mike was a well-known pillar of the community in his own way; although he was very outspoken at times, people called him the “Mayor of Dundee” or “Mayor Mike”, if you lived in Dundee, you knew who he was. People respected his attitude of “If there’s work to do, do it”; and he always stuck to his families belief of “Someone has to do it, might as well be a Westfall”. Mikey was his own boss, and entrepreneur in his own way. If he saw a need, he capitalized on it. Other peoples chores were his passion, grass grows mow it, leaves fall rake them, snow accumulates clear it. He knew other peoples discarded metal had scrap value, he never missed a season for wood burners, always cutting firewood. He will surely be missed by countless people and truly the entire town.
One of his favorite past times was going to the Classic Café to chat with “The Guys”. He enjoyed his time spent farming with people like Charlie Banach, Jeff Angle, and countless others. He helped many Mennonite families in the community as well. He enjoyed collecting anything that had an eagle connection. For years, he has supported Dundee Dollars for Scholars, assisting with the can drive.
If you knew Mikey, you knew there were days he was grumpy, but he still had a love for everyone. He meant it when he would say, “I won’t stop working until I’m dead”.
He is loved beyond measure and will be forever missed by his family, daughter Kimberly M. Westfall of Lyons, NY, son Michael P. “Little Mikey” Westfall Jr. (Kandy Berry) with whom he made his home, daughter Nichole L. Westfall of Penn Yan, daughter Jennifer Westfall of Reading Center; he loved his 12 grandchildren, and was melted by his one great granddaughter. He leaves his brothers Joel T. (Tammy) Westfall and Lyle W. (Annette Keck) Westfall all of Dundee; he will be missed by his sisters Cathy A. (Jerry) Krnotch of Newfield, Barbara Jean Dennis of Florence, CO, Deborah L. Ferguson of Keuka Park, and Sandy M. Scott of Dundee, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by brothers Timothy J. Westfall in 2021, and Markham K. Westfall in 2023.
