Melvin E. Tighe Penn Yan: Melvin E. Tighe, age 84, of Clinton Crest in Penn Yan, NY passed away with his family at his side, on Saturday March 26, 2016 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan. Calling hours will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Thursday (March 31) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where his funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Norman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to White Stone Chapel 201 Brown St. Ext. Melvin was born May 24, 1931 in Seneca Falls, NY; one of three sons of the late Frank and Helen Sherman Tighe. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952 - 1954. He worked for 25 years in the Wholesale Grocery business employed by O'Connor-Moshier, in Syracuse, NY until 1975 when he moved to Dundee. He accepted a job with Lew Green at Green Lawn Farms, where he finally retired from in 1993. Melvin loved the outdoors and was a devoted N.Y. Giants fan. Having never married or had any children of his own, he is loved and will be very missed by several nieces and nephews including his nephew Phil (Carla) Rider with whom he made his home for 32 years. He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers Frank Tighe of Ithaca; Eddie Tighe of Waterloo; and 3 sisters Pauline Tighe, and Kathleen DeMetro both of Waterloo; and Flora Mae Rider of Dundee.
