Matthew James Hoyt
Dundee: Matthew James Hoyt, age 51, of Dundee, NY passed away on Monday July 6, 2026 at Guthrie Robert-Packer Hospital, in Sayre, PA.
Honoring his wishes there will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to bring their best stories and remembrances to a Celebration of His Life on Friday July 10 from 4:00 pm until closing, at the Dundee American Legion, 10 Spring St., Dundee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may sent in his honor to the Dundee Fire Company Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837.
Matthew was born May 30, 1975 in Auburn, NY, the son of the late Martin James and the former Patricia (Paddock) Hoyt. He graduated from Dundee Central School in the class of 1993, having been a multisport athlete, and a member of several championship teams. He continued his education receiving top honors in the school of hard knocks.
A lifelong area resident, he was a former butcher in the meat department at the former Giles Family Store, Dundee, NY. Matt enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and forging as he was studying and learning the trade of Blacksmithing.
He is survived and will be missed by the love of his life Jennifer L. Pound; he was the proud father of four sons, Erik B. Hoyt, Leif J. Hoyt, Tate M. (Serina Sheradin) Hoyt, and Austin L. Brown; he was a loving grandfather of grandson Declan Moriarty-Hoyt. He will be forever loved by his mother Patricia (Scott) Mason; and his dear step mother Judy Hoyt; he was the tough but loving brother of Joshua J. Hoyt (Holly Pollack-Hoyt), Justin L. (Erica) Hoyt, and sister’s Nicole J. Hoyt, Angela M. Hoyt, and Kelsey M. (Michael) Shuta; and the big uncle of several nieces, nephews, and two great nephews. And he will always be remembered and loved by his best friend and brother from another mother Todd Whitford.
He was predeceased by his father Martin James Hoyt in 2021.
