John Wilson 'Jake' Whipkey Dundee: John Wilson 'Jake' Whipkey, age 90, of Dundee, NY passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with family at his side on Thursday December 28, 2017. Honoring his wishes there are no prior calling hours. A Celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring. John was born Sept. 22, 1927 in Normalville, PA, the son of the late John E. and Mamie {Basinger} Whipkey. He has lived locally since 1965, previously of Normalville. On March 9, 1967 in Tyrone, NY he married the former Laura R. "Dolly" Johnson. A heavy equipment operator for many years, he retired as a mechanic in the bus garage of Dundee Central School in 1989. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing guitar, chess, & checkers, and enjoyed repairing motorcycles for his family to enjoy. A devoted husband, and loving father & grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, "Dolly" Whipkey at home; 2 daughters, Judy (Ron) McIntire of Hammondsport, NY, Mary (Bob) Coon of Prattsburgh, NY; 3 sisters Etta Richter and Sally (Bill) Fulton all of White, PA, and Libby Potanko of Pittsburgh, PA; 2 grandsons Michael (Tracie Walters) Harper of Penn Yan, Daniel (Jennifer) Olevnik of Prattsburgh, NY; a granddaughter Wendy (Ron McQuaid) Christensen of Penn Yan; 4 great granddaughters; 5 great great grandsons; & many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by 2 sisters, Sarah Davis in 1993, Violet Katevich in 2010, 2 brothers, Clarence Whipkey in 1945, Billy Whipkey on Nov. 23, 2017; and a great granddaughter Shylo Zirkle on Sept. 16, 2017.
