Janice M. Smith Lawrenceville, PA/Dundee, NY: Janice M. Smith, age 73, of Lawrenceville, PA previously of Dundee, NY died unexpectedly on Friday April 15, 2016 at Robert-Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Friends are invited to calling hours from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Saturday (April 23) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where her funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm with Pastor Scott Burke officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. Memorial contributions may be made to East Lawrence Baptist Church 1139 East Lawrence Rd. Lawrenceville, PA 16929. Janice was born Jan. 13, 1943 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late P. Douglas and Bernice Wainwright Whitaker. Jan grew up in Lindley where her family owned a market. She graduated from Northside High School in Corning in 1961; she earned her Associates Degree from Corning Community College, her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Keuka College, and her Masters in Elementary Education from Mansfield University in 1966. She taught at the Horseheads High School until 1971 when she started her family. Returning to teaching in 1982, she taught Business classes at Dundee Central School until her retirement in 1998. On June 30, 1993 in the Dundee Methodist Church she married Danny L. Smith. They have lived in Lawrenceville since 2007, previously of Dundee, and Tyrone. Janice was an active member of the East Lawrence Baptist Church, previously a member of the Barrington Community Church, both of which she played the piano and organ. She was a member of New York State Retired Teachers Assoc.; and besides her love of music she was famous for her baked brownies, and loved to travel. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her husband of 22 years Danny L. Smith at home; a daughter Melissa I. (Matthew) Dolder of San Antonio, TX, 2 sons Eric S. Kirkendall of Kirkville, NY, Jason P. (Susan) Kirkendall of Dundee, NY; 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Taylor, Alex, Gabriel, Dakota, Lucas, Amelia, and Anabelle; and a brother Nathan (Jane) Whitaker of Brooksville, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and stepchildren she loved like her own.
