Ida M. Smith Penn Yan/Dundee: Ida M. Smith, age 80, of Penn Yan, formerly of Dundee, NY died Monday April 14, 2025 in the comfort and safety of her son's home, surrounded by her loving family. Family and friends are invited to a calling hour from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon followed by her funeral service at noon on Saturday April 19, 2025 at the Barrington Community Church, 4560 Old Bath Rd., Dundee, with Deacon Carl Clark officiating. Burial will be in Barrington Community Cemetery, Dundee. Memorial contributions may be made to Barrington Community Church, P.O. Box 73, Dundee, NY 14837. Ida was born February 27, 1945 in Elmira, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ronald D. and Carrie A. (Edwards) Gifford Sr. She graduated from Prattsburgh High School in 1963. On August 16, 1963 in Penn Yan, NY she married the late Loren C. Smith who passed away on March 3, 2001. A loving housewife and mother, her first occupation was working in the vineyards for Lee Gibson. Her loving nature led her to becoming a home health aide for various local families. She earned her certificate to become a C.N.A. employed by Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home in Penn Yan, until she injured her back in 1993. Mrs. Smith was a devoted member of the Barrington Community Church, and a former member of the Penn Yan Moose Lodge. Her favorite activities were baking, and babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren one or all. She is dearly loved and will be forever missed by her son Michael L. (Tammy) Smith with whom she made her home; her daughter Tina S. Smith of Dundee; 5 grandchildren, Carrie E. (Albert) Brush, and Tyler M. Smith both of Dundee, McKayla M. (Brandon) Merkley, and Troy M. (Melissa Lehr) Smith both of Penn Yan, Stephen L. (Cheyenne) Smith also of Dundee; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Kenneth Gifford of Penn Yan, John Gifford of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, and husband, she was pre-deceased by a daughter Tammy M. Smith in 2006; and 2 brothers Ronald Gifford Jr., and Donald Gifford.
