Howard G. Tones Penn Yan: Howard G. Tones, age 76, of Penn Yan, NY died unexpectedly on Tuesday January 10, 2012 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan, NY. Honoring his wishes there were no prior calling hours. A private graveside service with Full Military Honor's was held at Lakeview Cemetery, in Penn Yan with Rev. Jeff Childs officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice. Howard was born September 8, 1935 in the town of Benton, NY, the son of the late Albert and Mildred Russell Tones. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. On May 27, 1978 in Miami, FL he married the former Linda S. Bacher. A life long area resident, having resided in Florida from 1972 - 1980; Howard was a farmer employed by the Morris Farm, in Penn Yan, NY, until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Tones was a member and Past Vice President of the Izaak Walton League; a member of the Penn Yan Elks B.P.O.E. #1722, the Penn Yan VFW the Penn Yan American Legion, and the Penn Yan Moose Lodge. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 33 years Linda S. Tones at home; a step daughter Virginia (Daniel) Stryker of Penn Yan; 2 sisters Elda Slater of Branchport, and Barbara (Clifford) Peterson of Penn Yan; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister Genevieve VanKeuran; and a brother Burton Tones. Arrangements were entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
