Howard V. Rumsey
Dundee: Howard V. Rumsey, age 85, of the Town of Tyrone, NY died Thursday August 30, 2012 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, in Elmira, NY.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 4) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, NY; where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday (Sept. 5) with Rev. Harry Staiti officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, in Hammondsport, NY.

Howard was born December 16, 1926 in Bath, NY, the son of the late Charles and Maude Strait Rumsey. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been in the Sea Bee Battalion, as an equipment operator in occupied Japan. On Sept. 4, 1948 in Bath, NY, he married the former Doris G. Avery.
A life long local resident, Howard worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction, for many years for Dalrymple Construction of Elmira. The majority of his life, was spent working along side his wife in the rental property business, and as owners of Dottie's Mobile Homes, in Dundee. The word retirement was not in either of their vocabularies.
He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years Doris G. Rumsey at home, 5 sons James Rumsey of Tyrone, Samuel H. (Darlene) Rumsey of Dundee, Christopher S. Rumsey of Hammondsport, Terry Rumsey of Wayne, Howard T. Rumsey of Dundee; 3 daughters Linda Rumsey of Dundee, Robbin C. (Harold) Rider, and Candy LaBar both of Tyrone; 21 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; a sister Helen Schoeffler of Bath; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
