Gordon D. Travis Sr.
Dundee: Gordon D. Travis Sr., age 91, of Dundee, NY with a broken heart, left this world behind to be reunited with his beloved wife on Thursday October 8, 2026.
Honoring his wishes there will be no calling hours or public service. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee, NY.

Gordon was born April 17, 1935 in the town of Starkey, NY, a son of the late Fred and Edna (Morse) Travis. He graduated from Dundee Central School in the class of 1953. He helped his family on the farm, marrying his sweetheart Betty Jean Gilbert on March 6, 1958. It was a short honeymoon stage before he was inducted into the U.S. Army two months later on May 7. He proudly served two years and was honorably discharged on May 6, 1960. His first gainful employment back in his home town, was working for Lew Green in the vineyards. Needing a fulltime year round job, he became a machinist in the growing salt mining field. But his love of farming stayed strong as he worked both the salt plant as well as for the Charles Malloy farm. He retired from Akzo Nobel Salt, of Watkins Glen, on May 1, 1997. Not one to sit idly at home, Gordon along with his wife, began driving for the Mennonite community, fostering many wonderful friendships throughout the area. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loving his grand and great grandchildren.
He will be forever missed by his two sons Gordon ‘Gordie’ D. Travis Jr. who devotedly lived at home making it possible for his parents to live out their lives in safety. Son Kyle J. (Bridget) Travis of Penn Yan; who blessed his parents with all of the 5 grandchildren Chelsea (Joseph) Backiel, Darcie Travis, Nathaniel Travis, Rebecca Travis, and Joshua Travis; 4 great grandchildren Hayden, Aliyah, Nicholas, and Elliot Travis; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many Mennonite friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Betty on March 11, 2026 just 5 days after their 68th anniversary, joining their two sons Patrick who passed in 1979, and Randy the following year in 1980. He was also pre-deceased his half-brothers Arnold, and Francis Empson; a brother Fred Travis Jr.; and 2 sisters Waneta Wayand, and Anna Jean Forman.
Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee. Online condolences can be sent by visiting www.bairdfuneralhomedundee.com.
