Dorothy G. 'Dot' Crans Penn Yan/Dundee: Dorothy 'Dot' Crans, age 104, of Penn Yan, NY passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her daughters by her side on Thursday February 27, 2025. Honoring her wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A gathering of remembrance for family and friends will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday May 17, 2025 at the Penn Yan Moose Lodge. A private graveside service will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Yates County, P.O. Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box, 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527. Dorothy was born July 18, 1920 in Corning, NY; the only daughter of the late Shirley & Dorothy May (Burliegh) Snyder. She graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1938. She has lived in Penn Yan since 1986 formally of Dundee. Dorothy was a Kindergarten Teachers Aide for 18 years at Dundee Central School, retiring in 1972. 'Dot' was a former Girl Scout leader, a former member of the Rebekah's; and served meals for the Dundee Rotary Club in her younger years. She was known and called "Mom" by all the neighborhood kids. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her 3 daughters, Nancy J. (John Fontana) Mortensen, with whom she made her home, Shirley E. (Roger) Templar of Davenport, FL, and Beverly S. Sample also at home; 5 grandchildren Christina (Glenn) Houck, and Tammy (Steve) Hurley both of Ohio, David (Deena) Crans of Georgia, Nicole (Dominic) Cremona also of Ohio, and Ray (Melissa) Sample of Indiana; 13 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Don Mortensen.
