Donald E. Ennis Penn Yan: Coach Donald E. Ennis, age 86, of Penn Yan, NY heard the final buzzer and left this world when his time expired on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home. Donald was born February 2, 1938 in Waverly, NY, the son of Frederick and Carolyn Moorhour Ennis. He graduated from Waverly High school and went on to get his Master's Degree in Education from Ithaca College. He married the former Dorothy "Dottie" Hufford in 1960; and celebrated their 54th anniversary before she passed away on Nov. 6, 2014. He began his teaching career at Gorham in 1962. In 1968 the merger of Gorham and Middlesex schools became Marcus Whitman. He taught Phys. Ed. in all levels from elementary to high school. He started the Football program at the Gorham School and continued it at Marcus Whitman. He retired after 36 years in 1998. His love of Physical Education continued after his formal retirement as he became a Strength Coach for boys & girls, as well as faculty. He is loved and will be forever missed by his only niece Nancy J. Ennis of Gold River, CA; lifelong friends Dean and Jesse Duffy of Hall, NY; his best friend Michael Schrouder of Penn Yan; and countless students and athletes from all of his years teaching and coaching. Following his game plan, there will be no public services. Those wishing to honor "Coach Ennis" with a memorial contribution should support the Youth Sports Program of their choice.
