Dean Lewis Thompson
Reading Center: Dean Lewis Thompson, age 77, of Reading Center, NY passed away on Easter Sunday March 31, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Honoring his wishes there will be no prior calling hours, and services will be private.

Dean was born December 2, 1946 in Penn Yan, NY, son of the late Dean L. and Joyce E. Madigan Thompson. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968, and in the reserves until 1972. On May 10, 1969 in the Dundee Baptist Church he married the former Catherine Jean Buckley.
A life-long area resident, he was a former fork lift operator for International Salt, in Watkins Glen, and a member of the United Steel Workers Local Union 12460, retiring in 2002. He then took a position with the Montour Falls Rendering Plant where he worked for a few more years. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Watkins Glen VFW Post 6200. Dean was a farmer at heart and was often called upon for local butchering. He also loved fishing, deer and turkey hunting, and trapping. He enjoyed camping, bowling, bird watching, NASCAR and saving TV guides.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Catherine J. Thompson at home; 3 daughters Cat Hall of Bath, Carrie (Bob) McFall of Penn Yan, Saraha (Danny Blair) Thompson of Dundee; a son Frank (Michelle) Thompson of Bradford; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers Bruce E. (Phyllis) Thompson of Tyrone, Brian D. (LouAnn Miller) Thompson of Millport, Byron D.(Marjorie) Thompson of Watkins Glen; 3 sisters Sharon E. Thompson of Watkins Glen, Sharee E. Pulos of Alpine, Starlene J. (Timothy) Ector of Watkins Glen, along with countless nieces and nephews.
