Arling John Briggs Penn Yan/Dundee: Arling John Briggs, age 89, of Penn Yan, formerly of Dundee, NY died Thursday November 17, 2022 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Penn Yan, NY. There are no prior calling hours. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday July 15, 2023 in Hillside Cemetery, Route 14A, Dundee, NY with Elder Michael VanWormer officiating. It is advised that those needing a chair should plan to bring one with them. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arling was born May 9, 1933 in Dundee, NY, one of 12 children, 10 sons of the late Howard Seldon and Reita Elmina (Wallace) Briggs. He graduated from Dundee Central School. Arling was a farmer all of his life, working on every type of farm type, from agricultural to horse farm, having been employed over the years by several various farms, in Yates County. Mr. Briggs was a member of the Penn Yan Moose Lodge, and was a former member of the Dundee American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, but his love of horses and horse racing was a passion that lasted his lifetime. He is survived by 2 daughters Patricia A. (Ross) Andrews Sr. with whom he made his home for many years, of Penn Yan; Renay Howard of Springfield, MO, 5 grandchildren Santos Roderick, & Gabrial Roderick, Morgan (Scott Voak) Andrews & Ross Andrews Jr., and Emma Howard; 2 great granddaughters Julia & Shellbee Roderick; 2 brothers Stanley (Lyla) Briggs of Marathon, NY, Dave (Kay) Briggs of Orlando, FL; a sister Erma Mullins of Penn Yan; his former wife & life long friend Kathryn Horski of Penn Yan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Beside his parents he was pre-deceased by 7 brothers Leon, Charlie, Harold, Howard, Lawrence, Lewis, and Robert Briggs; and a sister Sarah Hainsworth.
