Ada Emily Pettingill Williams
Bradford / Lamoka Lake: Ada Emily Pettingill Williams, age 94, of Bradford, (on Lamoka), NY passed away peacefully just 6 days shy of her 95th birthday, Wednesday June 10, 2026 at the Corning Hospital.
There will be no prior calling hours. A private graveside service will be held in the Altay Baptist Cemetery, Six Corners Rd., Altay, at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions be made to the Tyrone Fire Company or Volunteer Ambulance Corp., P.O. Box 69, Tyrone, NY 14887, or the Altay Baptist Church, 4289 Six Corners Rd., Dundee, NY 14837.
Ada was born June 16, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Rev. R. Earl Pettingill and Ada Emily (Hess) Pettingill. She was retired from Corning Glass Works, Corning, NY. Mrs. Williams was a long time member of the Lamoka – Waneta Lake Assoc.; the Flint Glass Workers Union Local 1000. An avid gardener and flower grower; she was an extremely talented artist as well. She loved painting and sketching, and at the age of 81, was the proud illustrator for the children’s book “The Black Cat” published in 2012, written by her niece Karen Sochacki. Her remarkable creativity was always on display throughout her property on “Her Beautiful Lamoka Lake” Ada would often be seen by those around the lake and Corning area driving her beloved Ford Mustang convertibles.
She is loved and will be dearly missed by her son John E. Williams of Livonia, NY; 3 grandchildren Tanya (William) Storm, Melissa A. Williams, and John E. Williams II all of Big Flats, NY; 3 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a sister Mildred Manfredi of Toms River, NJ; a favorite daughter in law Amy Woodard-Williams also of Big Flats; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her dear friend and companion Donald I. Silvey in 2000, a daughter Cheryl A. Hayes of Arlington, TX in 2008; 2 sisters Leonore Hallett of Union Beach, NJ in 2017, and Marion Hughes of Langhorn, PA in 2024.
